Catering Assistant – Sunderland & Washington
We are seeking reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistants to join welcoming secondary schools in Sunderland and Washington. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy working as part of a busy team and are committed to providing a high standard of service within a school environment.
The successful Catering Assistants will support the effective day-to-day running of the school catering service, helping to prepare and serve food while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety.
As a Catering Assistant, you will work closely with the wider catering team to provide an efficient and friendly service to students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and refreshments.
- Provide a friendly and efficient service to students and staff.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout kitchen and dining areas.
- Assist with washing up and cleaning catering equipment and work surfaces.
- Follow food hygiene, allergen, and health and safety procedures.
- Support the safe storage and rotation of food and catering supplies.
- Assist with setting up and clearing dining areas.
- Work collaboratively with the wider catering team during busy service periods.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous catering, kitchen, hospitality, or food service experience – desirable.
- A good understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices.
- The ability to work effectively within a busy team environment.
- Strong reliability and punctuality.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- A flexible and proactive approach to work.
- The ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
