Catering & General Assistant (Temporary)

Job Purpose

To support the delivery of a high-quality catering service by serving food, maintaining food temperature controls, and carrying out general housekeeping duties. The postholder will help ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors while adhering to food hygiene and health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve food and beverages in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Assist with basic food preparation and kitchen support duties.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene within kitchen, dining, and food preparation areas.
  • Carry out general housekeeping duties including sweeping, mopping, cleaning, and tidying.
  • Wash and store kitchen equipment, utensils, and crockery safely.
  • Follow Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
  • Dispose of waste appropriately and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service to pupils, staff, and visitors.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in catering, kitchen, cleaning, housekeeping, or hospitality environments.
  • Experience of working to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school, care, or educational setting.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Desirable

  • Health and Safety training.

Compliance Requirements

Essential

  • Enhanced DBS Check required.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities when working in a school environment.
  • Ability to comply with food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations.

Additional Details

  • Location: Thurton CEVC Primary School, Norwich, NR14 6AT
  • Working Hours: 15 Hours/Week
  • Pay Rate: £16.05/ Hour UMB
  • We operate on a bi-weekly payment schedule.
