Company Description

PKL Group, a Lowe Rental Company, is the UK’s leading provider of outsourced catering infrastructure solutions, offering temporary kitchens and catering equipment for hire, as well as permanent modular kitchen buildings for hire and sale. The company also supplies food servery kiosks and major event kitchen complexes, supporting a wide range of catering operations from small events to large-scale, complex projects. Through its U-Select division, PKL provides catering equipment for rental and sale to customers with ongoing, permanent requirements. PKL serves both public and private sector clients, supporting refurbishments, emergencies, and event catering needs, giving team members exposure to varied projects and environments.

Role Description

The Catering Engineer role is full-time, with plenty of over-time if required, on call is 1 in 5. The Catering Engineer will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial catering equipment and temporary kitchen infrastructure at client sites and within PKL facilities. The role involves:

The Catering Engineer will engage with customers professionally, provide guidance on equipment use and basic troubleshooting, and contribute to continuous improvement of service quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills in installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial catering equipment, including electrical and mechanical components.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations, with experience conducting safety checks, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work orders, and to use appropriate tools and test equipment effectively.
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on timely and practical solutions in busy catering environments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to complete service documentation and communicate with customers and colleagues professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage workload, prioritize jobs, and work independently on-site.
  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in engineering (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or catering engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer locations as required.
  • Experience in commercial catering, hospitality, facilities management, or a similar field is beneficial.
