I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This is a role where your observations, decisions and actions can make a genuine difference. Whether identifying an incident as it unfolds, supporting emergency services or providing vital evidence to assist an investigation, you will be an integral part of our wider community safety response.
The successful applicant will be subject to the Council’s Standard Disclosure checks, and this post will require an enhanced Police vetting check. Please note that an offer of employment will not be made until all required checks have been successfully completed.
If you are shortlisted you will be invited to attend a face-to-face assessment centre, where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and attributes required for the role through a combination of practical exercises.
We have opportunities within the team on a full time or part time basis working a rotating shift-pattern covering 365 days a year, including bank holidays and unsociable hours. The appropriate shift allowance will apply.
Full-time hours are 35 hours per week over 7 days.
Part Time hours are flexible and should be discussed and agreed with your line manager.
