CDAE TP137 Protection & Control Design Engineer – Contract

Location: UK / Hybrid
Sector: National Grid / Transmission / Substations
Contract: Contract
Rate: Competitive / DOE

We are currently looking for an experienced Protection & Control Design Engineer with current/relevant National Grid CDAE TP137 approval to support the delivery of major UK transmission substation projects.

This is a specialist contract requirement and candidates must have a strong background delivering Protection & Control design within National Grid environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Protection & Control design packages for National Grid transmission substation projects.
  • Produce and review P&C schematics, control schematics, wiring diagrams and secondary engineering documentation.
  • Undertake design activities in accordance with National Grid TP137 requirements and applicable NG technical specifications.
  • Produce and review AC/DC schematics, interlocking diagrams, cable schedules, I/O schedules and associated design documentation.
  • Develop and review protection schemes for HV/EHV transmission assets.
  • Provide technical assurance and design approval within the scope of CDAE competency/authorisation.
  • Interface with primary, SCADA/SCS and wider substation engineering disciplines.
  • Support technical reviews and ensure P&C designs meet National Grid standards and project requirements.
  • Provide technical input throughout detailed design and project delivery.

Essential Experience

  • National Grid CDAE – TP137 within Protection & Control.
  • Strong Protection & Control design experience.
  • Previous delivery of National Grid transmission projects.
  • Experience with HV/EHV substations, ideally at 132kV, 275kV and/or 400kV.
  • Strong understanding of secondary systems and protection schemes.
  • Experience producing and reviewing detailed P&C design documentation.
  • Knowledge of National Grid engineering standards and design assurance processes.
  • Experience with protection relays and IEDs from major OEMs.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 / Substation Control Systems would be advantageous.

This role specifically requires a P&C Design Engineer with National Grid CDAE TP137 approval/competency.

Candidates without relevant National Grid P&C design experience and TP137/CDAE credentials are unlikely to be suitable.
