Warburton Associates (WA) is a Multi-Disciplinary Architectural, Building Surveying, Construction Project Safety practice with extensive experience delivering design management and construction safety services across a variety of construction projects across the United Kingdom. The firm has a team specialising in construction safety, including CDM Principal Designer, CDM Advisor, BR Principal Designer and Construction Project Safety. WA operates across multiple sectors specialising in healthcare, residential, commercial (retail and industrial), conservation, education, and social housing. The practice is committed to high-quality service, robust safety standards, and effective project delivery.
Role Description
The CDM / BR Principal Designer role is a full-time, hybrid position with some work-from-home flexibility. The CDM / BR Principal Designer role will involve reviewing design risk across projects, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and building regulations, and integrating health and safety considerations into the design process. - Leading design reviews
- Liaising with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams
- Preparing and maintaining pre-construction information
- Reviewing CPPs and H&S Files
- Advising on risk mitigation strategies
- Carrying out site inspections to ensure compliance
- Reviewing drawings and specifications
- Documenting design decisions
- Ensuring that statutory requirements and best practice standards are being consistently met

Qualifications
- Strong design management skills within construction or design, including coordination of multidisciplinary design teams and management of project documentation.
- Demonstrated expertise in CDM regulations and Principal Designer duties, with practical experience applying health and safety principles across project lifecycles.
- Solid understanding of UK building regulations (BR) and statutory compliance requirements, with experience reviewing and approving design information.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications, with good knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Effective stakeholder communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
- Experience in sectors such as healthcare, residential, commercial/industrial, conservation, education, or social housing is highly beneficial.
- Relevant professional qualification in design, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline; membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., APS, RIBA, RICS, ICE, CIOB, IOSH) is an advantage.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple projects.
