Job Description: Experienced CDM Consultant / Principal Designer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CDM Consultant / Principal Designer to join a growing consultancy and support a varied portfolio of clients and projects.

The successful candidate will act as a CDM Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015, whilst also providing wider health and safety consultancy and risk management support.

This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys combining technical delivery, client interaction and the opportunity to contribute to business growth.

Key Responsibilities

CDM Principal Designer

  • Undertake the duties and responsibilities of a CDM Principal Designer in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Provide clients with competent advice throughout the design and construction process.
  • Support the effective management and coordination of health and safety risks associated with design and construction activities.
  • Maintain professional standards and ensure all work is delivered diligently and confidentially.

Health & Safety Consultancy

  • Provide health and safety advice and consultancy services to clients.
  • Carry out site inspections, audits and assessments and produce clear, accurate reports.
  • Provide practical advice on health and safety risk management.
  • Undertake risk assessments and assist with the preparation and review of method statements.
  • Identify potential risks and provide appropriate recommendations to clients and project teams.

Professional Development

  • Maintain and develop professional competence through relevant CPD and training.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, industry guidance and best practice.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of health and safety and CDM services.

Client Management & Relationships

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to client queries, feedback and requests.
  • Represent the consultancy in a professional manner at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities to develop additional work with existing clients.
  • Develop relationships with prospective clients and contribute to winning new business.
  • Support the promotion and growth of CDM and health and safety consultancy services.
  • Assist with technical input into proposals, tenders and quotations.

Commercial & Administration

  • Assist with the preparation of technical submissions, tenders and fee proposals.
  • Prepare accurate quotations and pricing information.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activity and time spent.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress and workload.
  • Complete relevant administrative tasks to support the smooth delivery of projects.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working within CDM / Principal Designer / Health & Safety consultancy.
  • A strong understanding of the CDM Regulations 2015 and the responsibilities of the Principal Designer.
  • Experience conducting site inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • The ability to work independently whilst also contributing effectively within a wider team.
  • A professional and commercially aware approach.
  • A commitment to maintaining professional competence and undertaking ongoing CPD.
