Overview
AtkinsRéalis is a leading global design, engineering, and project management consultancy, delivering innovative solutions that help shape a more sustainable future. We are looking for a motivated Health & Safety in Design/CDM Consultant to join our collaborative team, supporting clients in meeting their CDM 2015 responsibilities and promoting best practice in health and safety across a diverse range of projects.
Based in our Southampton office, with flexible hybrid working options, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and designers to deliver high-quality CDM and Principal Designer services. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a construction professional or H&S specialist seeking to make a meaningful impact while developing their career within a supportive and inclusive environment.
Your role
- Act as a CDM/Health & Safety Consultant, supporting clients and project teams in complying with CDM 2015 regulations.
- Advise clients, designers, and project stakeholders on health and safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support and assist Principal Designers in fulfilling their duties under CDM regulations.
- Conduct CDM design risk reviews and provide recommendations to eliminate or reduce construction and operational risks.
- Review design documentation and ensure health and safety considerations are incorporated into project designs.
- Provide guidance on construction health and safety best practices, legislation, and industry standards.
- Assist clients in meeting their legal obligations under CDM 2015 and other relevant H&S legislation.
- Carry out health and safety audits, inspections, and site visits to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
- Deliver H&S and CDM awareness training sessions to clients and internal teams.
- Support quality assurance processes and ensure consistent service delivery across projects.
- Monitor industry developments and legislative changes, incorporating best practices into project delivery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, providing specialist H&S advice and support.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering a high standard of consultancy services.
- Travel to client sites and project locations as required across the region.

About you
- Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience in CDM consultancy, construction health & safety, or design risk management.
- Good understanding of construction design principles, construction methods, and site safety requirements.
- Ability to conduct design risk assessments, CDM reviews, audits, and inspections.
- Knowledge of construction hazards including temporary works, demolition, asbestos, scaffolding, working at height, lifting operations, and fire safety.
- Experience advising clients and project teams on H&S compliance and risk management.
- Professional membership/chartership with IOSH or equivalent professional body (or working towards).
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent H&S qualification preferred.
- Understanding of ISO 45001 and integrated management systems.
- Strong report writing, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Strong client-facing consultancy and relationship management skills.
- Proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard business software.
