Role Description
The CDM Principal Designer will lead the coordination and management of design risk under relevant construction and design management regulations, ensuring health and safety is embedded throughout the project lifecycle. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Reviewing and advising on design proposals
- Preparing and maintaining project risk registers
- Collaborating with clients, designers, and contractors to ensure a safe and compliant design process
- Producing clear documentation
- Attending design and coordination meetings
- Providing guidance on best practices and regulatory requirements

This is a full-time hybrid position based in Birmingham, with a mix of on-site client and project meetings and some work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in CDM regulations, design risk management, and health and safety compliance within construction or related sectors.
- Strong experience in multidisciplinary coordination, working with clients, designers, and contractors to integrate safety considerations into design decisions.
- Ability to analyze technical design information, prepare risk registers, and produce clear, structured documentation and reports.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the ability to challenge and guide project teams constructively.
- Relevant professional qualification in construction, engineering, architecture, or project management (e.g., degree-level or equivalent experience).
- Professional accreditation or training in health and safety or CDM (e.g., NEBOSH, APS membership, or equivalent) is highly beneficial.
- Proficiency in common project and design tools (e.g., MS Office, collaboration platforms; familiarity with BIM or CAD environments is an advantage).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and maintain high attention to detail within a fast-paced consultancy environment.
