CDM Site Manager - Contract Opportunity, Newcastle

We are working with our client, a leading FMCG papermill operation, on a high-profile 6-month shutdown project in Newcastle starting January 2027. They are seeking an experienced CDM Site Manager to take full ownership of site safety and coordination on a 24/7 shutdown, working fully on site on 10-hour shifts across weekdays, weekends and nights on a rota. This is a contract position outside IR35, paying £375 per day.

Key Skills and Experience

• SMSTS - Demonstrable site management safety training to lead and control works on a complex industrial shutdown.
• First Aid - Ability to respond quickly and effectively to incidents, enhancing safety for everyone on site.
• Contractor Management - Coordinating multiple contractors, ensuring work is sequenced, compliant and delivered to plan.
• Permit Issuing - Managing permit-to-work systems so high-risk activities are properly controlled and authorised.
• RAMS Review - Critically assessing Risk Assessments and Method Statements to ensure they are robust and aligned with CDM requirements.
• Site Walks - Conducting regular inspections to identify hazards, monitor progress and maintain housekeeping standards.
• CDM Compliance - Ensuring full adherence to Construction (Design and Management) regulations throughout the shutdown period.
• Industrial/Manufacturing Experience - Background in similar environments, ideally papermill or FMCG, with previous shutdown or maintenance project exposure.
• NEBOSH (Nice-to-have) - Additional health and safety expertise to strengthen overall site risk management.
