An exclusive opportunity has arisen within a London-based single-family office who are looking for a CFO / COO to manage the family's financial affairs and the day-to-day running of the family office and its wider operations, including the estates and philanthropic activities.
This is a senior role that combines oversight with hands-on delivery, working directly with the principal and external advisers. The CFO/COO will lead the family office team and act as a sounding board for the family in their financial and operational decision-making.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Leadership
- Act as a trusted adviser to the family across their personal, investment and business affairs.
- Lead the family's financial and operational strategy, working with external advisers.
Finance and Reporting
- Oversee financial and management reporting across the family office and associated businesses, ensuring the family have clear and relevant information to support decision-making.
- Prepare financial reporting and information for board meetings, and follow up agreed actions.
- Manage the annual audit and the relationship with external auditors.
- Maintain robust internal financial controls.
Treasury, Cash and Banking
- Manage treasury, cash flow, banking and funding requirements across the family's UK and international banking relationships, including mortgages and intercompany balances.
- Oversee business and personal bill payments, payment authorisation controls and fraud risk.
- Oversee personal and business tax compliance, and work with external advisers on tax planning and advisory matters.

Investments and Family Finances
- Oversee investment reporting and cash flows across the family's private equity, public market and direct investment holdings, and coordinate with investment managers and advisers.
- Provide financial and operational oversight of the family's art collection.
- Oversee the financial aspects of rental properties, including cost and cash flow management.
Estates, Property and Events Operations
- Oversee the operational and financial performance of the family's estates, working with estate and land managers and specialist rural advisers.
- Oversee the operational, commercial and financial management of the philanthropic activities, including budgeting, contractor and supplier management, and health & safety.
- Oversee the family's international property portfolio, including maintenance, capital projects and relationships with local property managers and advisers across jurisdictions.
People and Team
- Lead and develop the family office team, with functional oversight of the estate and festival management teams, including recruitment and performance management.
- Oversee HR, payroll and employment matters, working with external advisers and providers.
Advisers, Costs and Vendors
- Manage and coordinate external advisers and service providers, and oversee family office costs, professional fees and supplier contracts, ensuring the family office has the right mix of internal and external capability.
- Oversee insurance arrangements, working alongside the family's other advisers.
- Oversee IT systems, cyber security and external IT providers.

Governance, Risk and Regulatory
- Act as Money Laundering Reporting Officer and oversee AML, legal and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee company secretarial and corporate governance requirements, and work with the management team and external advisers on the wider entity structure.
- Maintain oversight of the family office risk framework and key financial, tax, statutory and governance deadlines.
- Identify financial, operational and governance risks and opportunities to ensure these are addressed appropriately.
Profile of the Successful Candidate
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with proven experience in a senior finance leadership role.
- Experience of working with UHNW individuals or in a family-run business or family office environment.
- Strong personal and corporate tax literacy (including VAT and employment tax knowledge), with the judgement to direct advisers rather than defer to them.
- Experience of leading and developing finance or operations teams.
- Comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
- Sound judgement and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
