Generalist

The role
Wander is looking for a CG Generalist to contribute across our virtual production and environment work, with a focus on building the kind of photorealistic digital worlds that generative and VP pipelines demand.
You will be working primarily on environment construction, lookdev, and layout, creating assets and scenes that serve both traditional VFX compositing and generative shot workflows. The role requires broad CG competence rather than deep specialism, and genuine curiosity about how real-time and generative tools are changing what CG production looks like.
You likely have
- Solid generalist CG skills across modelling, lookdev, lighting, and basic layout
- Experience in Houdini, Maya, or equivalent DCC, with working knowledge across more than one
- An understanding of real-world photographic reference and how to translate it into CG material and lighting
- Experience delivering CG assets and environments for VFX or virtual production pipelines
- The ability to work to brief and take technical direction

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Experience with Unreal Engine or other real-time environments
- Familiarity with generative AI workflows and their intersection with traditional CG
- Background in environment or matte painting work
The environment
This is a mid-level role with room to grow. Wander is building its virtual production capability and you will be a core part of that buildout, working on assets and environments that underpin generative shot creation as well as traditional VFX delivery.
