Cambridge House is an equity-based multiservice social action charity established in 1889 and now working across 29 London and 17 English and Welsh local authorities. Our services include a Law Centre, statutory advocacy services, disabled peoples empowerment services, and advice services for private rented sector tenants.
We want to appoint three trustees/company directors, one of them as our Chair Elect, and are looking for a blend of skills, expertise, and lived experience that enhance and extend the current Board’s make-up.
Term
Trustees serve an initial three-year term and are eligible for reappointment for two additional consecutive terms of three years (nine years in total). In exceptional circumstances or when particular skills are an ongoing requirement, this may be longer.
Eligibility
All Trustees must be 18 years and over and legally eligible to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee.

Remuneration
The role of Trustee is unremunerated, although reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
Meetings
Quarterly Board meetings are held between 6:30pm and 8:30pm and we hold an annual strategy day - usually on a Saturday. In addition to participation in quarterly board meetings, trustees are encouraged to connect with staff, support work, and join subcommittees or ad hoc groups. Our meetings are held in-person and online to meet trustees needs; where possible, we aim to hold the quarterly and strategy meetings in-person at our offices or another accessible venue.
Time commitment
Over the course of a year, trustees should expect to commit the equivalent of 6 to 8 days with the Chair committing an additional 2-3 days.
Location
In person meetings are held at Cambridge House’s office near Elephant and Castle station.

We’re particularly looking for people with the following knowledge and experience:
- Frontline delivery — charity services in community settings, particularly legal/advice
- Campaigning & influencing — political/parliamentary affairs at a national level
- Commissioning & systems — public sector commissioning across welfare, health, housing, refugee/asylum and/or social care
- Strategic enablers — AI in the workplace/service delivery, or marketing/communications/PR, or donor development/corporate partnerships and fundraising
