New Level Academy Education Committee Chair
New Level Academy, part of London Rangers Youth & Community is seeking an experienced Christian education leader to Chair our Education Committee, strengthen accountability and help drive improvement towards an innovative, project-based curriculum using football as a context for learning.
What difference will you make?
This is an opportunity to help shape the next stage of a small but ambitious alternative education provision.
Many of our learners have struggled within mainstream education. We want to provide something genuinely different rather than simply recreating a conventional school on a smaller scale.
Your leadership of the Education Committee will help us strengthen accountability, educational standards and governance, ensuring that the Headteacher and leadership team have clear priorities and that trustees can see whether improvements are actually being delivered.
At the same time, you will help us develop an innovative curriculum connecting education with football, sport, media, construction, facilities, business and real-world projects.
Our wider vision is to bring together New Level Academy, London Rangers FC and our community sports facilities so that the whole site becomes a living learning environment.
Your experience could therefore have a direct impact on the education, confidence, employability and future opportunities of young people who have previously found education difficult.
What are we looking for?

We are particularly interested in someone with significant experience in
- School or alternative provision leadership
- Headship, deputy headship, school improvement or education governance
- Curriculum development and quality assurance
- SEND and/or alternative provision
- Inspection and regulatory frameworks
- Holding senior education leaders appropriately accountable
- Project-based, vocational or experiential learning
Experience within independent schools, alternative provision, SEND, FE, football academies or sports education would be particularly valuable.

We are therefore seeking someone who is a committed practising Christian, comfortable contributing their faith and Christian perspective to strategic discussions about education, leadership, character development and the future direction of the Academy.
The successful volunteer should be supportive of our commitment to demonstrating leadership, relationship, faith and community in the way we work with young people, while maintaining high expectations for education, behaviour and personal development.

What will you be doing?
We are seeking a new trustee to Chair our Education Committee and take a leading governance role in the next stage of improvement and development at New Level Academy.
Our trustee board brings experience across charity leadership, community work, business, finance and education. We now want to strengthen the Board with someone who can provide focused educational leadership at governance level, ensuring trustees have strong oversight of standards and that our education leadership team is appropriately supported and challenged.
The immediate challenge
New Level Academy is a small independent alternative provision supporting young people who have often struggled in mainstream education.
Following our most recent Ofsted inspection, we are undertaking a significant programme of educational improvement. Strengthening governance, leadership accountability, curriculum quality and our ability to demonstrate sustained improvement are key priorities.
The new trustee will Chair the Education Committee and help the Board to
- Hold the Headteacher and education leadership team to account for educational performance and agreed improvement actions
- Monitor the Academy's Ofsted improvement priorities and ensure actions lead to measurable change
- Strengthen the Academy's readiness for future Ofsted inspections and monitoring
- Agree and scrutinise educational KPIs and improvement plans
- Monitor quality of education, attendance, behaviour, safeguarding, SEND, personal development and learner outcomes
- Ensure compliance with the Independent School Standards
- Ensure trustees receive clear and accurate evidence about educational performance
- Provide constructive challenge where improvement is not happening quickly enough
- Report the Education Committee's findings, risks and recommendations to the full Board

Helping us rethink alternative education
This role is not simply about preparing for the next Ofsted visit. We want someone who can help us build a stronger educational model for the long term.
Our ambition is to move increasingly towards project-based, vocational and experiential learning, using football and the wider sports industry as a real-world context for education.
Our company London Rangers FC and are developing our sports ground into a larger community sports and education facility. This creates an opportunity to turn the whole organisation into a living learning environment.
Learners could apply English through sports journalism, maths through statistics and business projects, media through football content production, and construction and maintenance through real site projects.
The Chair will help ensure this becomes a structured, ambitious and high-quality curriculum, while maintaining strong expectations around literacy, numeracy, qualifications, personal development and progression.
This is an opportunity to help lead a genuine educational improvement journey strengthening governance and Ofsted outcomes while helping create a distinctive Christian, football-focused alternative education model that enables young people to reconnect with learning and prepare for their future.
