The Opportunity

As Chair of the Board, you will provide strategic leadership and governance to Newcastle Theatre Royal, supporting and constructively challenging the CEO while ensuring the organisation remains focused on its mission: creating a love of theatre for everyone that lasts a lifetime. The role comes at an exciting time, as the Theatre builds on a successful recovery, expands its charitable impact, strengthens its profile and progresses ambitious fundraising plans.

About the role

You will:

  • Lead the Board in setting strategic direction and ensuring effective governance.
  • Act as a trusted partner, mentor and sounding board to the CEO.
  • Champion the organisation with stakeholders, partners, funders and the wider community.
  • Support fundraising activity and long-term sustainability.
  • Oversee performance, risk, financial stewardship and organisational impact.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and values-led Board culture.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Board Chair or senior leader with a strong track record of organisational leadership, governance and stakeholder engagement. You'll bring commercial awareness, sound judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to balance support with constructive challenge. Experience within the cultural, arts or charity sectors would be welcomed but is not essential.
