Fire & Rescue Indemnity Company Limited (“FRIC”)

Fire & Rescue Indemnity Company Limited (“FRIC”) is seeking an experienced, credible and collaborative Chair to lead its Board of Directors and help shape the next stage of its development. FRIC is a mutual that provides motor, property and liability cover to 15 Fire and Rescue Authorities in the UK on a discretionary basis. Owned and controlled by its Member Authorities, FRIC operates on a not-for-profit basis, with any surpluses reinvested in the mutual or returned to Members. Its Members work together to improve risk management, share learning and deliver long-term value across the fire and rescue sector.

The Role

This is a significant non-executive leadership role, equivalent to that of a non-executive director in a listed or private company. The Chair will provide active leadership to the Board, ensuring that FRIC delivers on behalf of its Member Authorities and continues to provide high quality, resilient and value for money services. Working closely with the Managers of the Mutual, the Chair will oversee FRIC’s operations, support effective planning and performance review, promote robust risk management and financial controls, and ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the Mutual.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You

The successful candidate will bring sound judgement, independence, integrity and the ability to provide both support and constructive challenge. They will be comfortable working as part of a unitary Board, respecting the different roles of executive and non-executive members while accepting collective responsibility for the organisation’s leadership and direction. Experience in business, governance, risk management, stakeholder engagement and chairing Boards or Committees would be valuable. Knowledge of insurance, particularly mutual organisations, would be advantageous, although detailed knowledge of the fire and rescue sector is not essential.

Leadership and Ambassadorial Responsibilities

The Chair will also act as an ambassador for FRIC, representing the Mutual at national, regional or local events and liaising with relevant bodies, stakeholders and organisations. The role requires strong communication and influencing skills, strategic insight, personal drive and the ability to handle complexity and uncertainty with confidence. FRIC is looking for someone who can uphold its values, champion equality and diversity, and help ensure services are delivered to the highest ethical and professional standards.
