Overview
Since opening in 2013, Cast has become a vibrant cultural anchor for Doncaster, welcoming over 120,000 people annually through our doors. As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), we present over 300 shows a year alongside sector-leading participatory projects, talent development, and community-led initiatives as a recognized Theatre of Sanctuary.
Cast is seeking a Board Chair Designate to lead our passionate Board of Trustees during a pivotal period of organizational evolution and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight to Cast's Board of Trustees.
- Line-manage and act as a critical friend/soundboard for Cast’s Director, James Blakey.
- Advocate for Cast locally, regionally, and nationally, acting as a passionate ambassador for our mission and values.
- Ensure financial sustainability, risk mitigation, and compliance with Charity Commission regulations in collaboration with our parent organization, DCLT.

What We Are Looking For
- Senior Leadership Experience: Proven experience at executive, board, or equivalent strategic levels.
- Governance & Scrutiny: Strong understanding of charity oversight, risk, and financial/data literacy.
- Inclusive Values: A deep commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility, and environmental responsibility.
- Relationship Builder: Ability to foster collaborative links with local authorities, funders (including ACE), and strategic partners.

Time Commitment
- 4 Board meetings per year (held in-person at Cast).
- 1 Board Away Day per year.
- Attendance at key press nights, fundraising events, and strategic planning panels.
- Initial 4-year term, with potential re-election.
