Purpose
To provide strong, structured leadership of the OVOJ Board and its meetings, ensuring good governance, sound decision-making and constructive oversight of the organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Chair Board meetings, ensuring they are structured, well run, inclusive and focused on the right priorities
- Provide support and constructive challenge to the Founder & Managing Director
- Work with the Board to ensure OVOJ has sound governance, financial oversight and risk management in place
- Help the Board set and hold the organisation’s strategic direction and risk appetite, particularly as OVOJ pursues larger and multi-year funding
- Represent OVOJ externally where helpful, including with funders, commissioners and partners
- Ensure the Board hears and responds to the voices of young people and communities OVOJ works with

Person specification
Essential:
- Experience chairing a board, or significant experience serving on one
- Understanding of good governance in a small, growing organisation (charity, CIC, or social enterprise)
- A genuine commitment to OVOJ’s mission: violence prevention, gender-based violence, and equality of opportunity
- Sound, independent judgement and the confidence to ask challenging questions
- Ability to commit the time needed (see below)
Desirable:
- A network among funders, commissioners, or corporate/philanthropic partners
- Knowledge of the third sector or public sector funding landscape
- Lived experience or professional background connected to OVOJ’s focus areas
Time commitment and remuneration

Meetings
- Quarterly Board meetings, plus a monthly check-in with the Founder/Managing Director
Additional time
- Occasional ad hoc support by email/phone between meetings, and representing OVOJ at events as needed
Location
- OVOJ works across Wales and London; meetings held in a hybrid format where possible with at least one in person meet up per year
Remuneration
- Voluntary position. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed
