Shape the future relationship between one of the UK's busiest airports and the communities it serves.
The Stansted Airport Consultative Committee (STACC) is the independent statutory body responsible for fostering effective dialogue between London Stansted Airport and its stakeholders. As the Airport continues to grow and evolve, STACC plays a vital role in ensuring that the views of communities, businesses, local authorities and passengers are heard and considered. This is particularly important given Stansted's significance as a major economic asset, serving around 30 million passengers annually and operating as the UK's third largest cargo airport, handling 274,000 tonnes of freight each year (11% of UK air freight; SDP, 2025). As a vital link connecting businesses across the East and Southeast of England to global markets, the Airport's continued development reinforces the importance of STACC's independent and balanced role. We are seeking an outstanding individual to become the next independent Chair of STACC and its Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG).
This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the UK's most respected airport consultative committees. Working independently of the Airport whilst maintaining constructive and productive relationships, you will provide impartial leadership to a diverse group of stakeholders, helping to ensure that the views of passengers, local authorities, community organisations, businesses and the Airport itself are heard, understood and constructively debated.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As Chair, you will lead a Committee comprising representatives from local communities, parish, district and county councils, business organisations, passenger groups, environmental interests and other key stakeholders. Building constructive and balanced relationships across this diverse membership will be central to your success. You will lead meetings, facilitate consensus across differing viewpoints, provide thoughtful challenge where appropriate, and act as an ambassador for STACC with senior leaders across the Airport, government, regulators and the wider community. In doing so, you will help ensure that STACC remains an independent, balanced and influential voice at a time of significant investment, airspace modernisation and wider change across the aviation sector. You will also need to navigate an evolving local political landscape, including Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution, ensuring STACC continues to engage effectively with local authorities and elected representatives as structures change.
Stansted is a major driver of employment, connectivity and economic growth across the region, but its operations and development also have significant impacts on surrounding communities, including noise, environmental and health concerns. STACC has an important role in ensuring these different perspectives are properly understood and considered, and the Chair will be central to maintaining a balanced and constructive dialogue.
We are looking for an experienced Chair or senior leader with outstanding judgement, diplomacy and credibility. You will have a successful track record of chairing boards, committees or other complex forums involving diverse interests, with the ability to build trusted relationships while maintaining independence, impartiality and objectivity. You will ensure STACC operates in accordance with its Constitution and the Department for Transport's Guidelines for Airport Consultative Committees, bringing strong governance, communication and consensus-building skills, alongside the confidence to act as a constructive critical friend.

This is a distinctive and rewarding Chair opportunity. STACC's members bring considerable knowledge, commitment and passion to their work, and you will have the opportunity to harness that energy into constructive dialogue and action, lead periodic reviews of the Committee's effectiveness and help drive tangible positive change for passengers, communities and other stakeholders.
