The Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic experienced Registered Nurse working within the Ophthalmology Outpatients/Day ward area in Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the Ophthalmology team, deputising in the absence of the SCN, supervising and supporting an experienced team of RN's and HCSW's. You will have the responsibility of the assessment delivery and supervision of all care needs within the outpatient/Day Ward setting. You will be required to work within a busy clinical area, working collaboratively with both nursing and medical teams.
You will be expected to deliver a high standard of evidence-based care utilising your clinical skills to assess patient needs, implement and evaluate care. You are required to be flexible, forward thinking and able to work effectively within a changing and dynamic environment. You will be an effective leader with evidence that you have the skills to manage a successful team, have excellent communication and sound decision making skills with evidence of ongoing professional development.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Location: Inverclyde Royal Hospital
- Contract: Permanent
- Working Pattern: Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern: Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, which are evidence-based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
- Participate in the development and leading of Nurse Led clinics.
- Competently perform the necessary technical/invasive/physical aspects of care for this defined patient group.
- Demonstrate competency in professional skills and expand those skills to meet patient need.
- Establish, maintain and develop effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives to ensure the appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.
- Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well-being are met.
- Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
- Ensure completion of clinical appraisals for pre and post-registration nurses.
- Assist the Senior Charge Nurse to lead, motivate and retain the nursing team, enabling educational needs of nurses to be met reflecting service requirements and developments within the department.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications, and/or Experience Required
- Registered Nurses on the NMC Register (Part 1 & 12) with a minimum of 3 years post-registration experience.
- Demonstrable experience in Ophthalmology.
- Relevant managerial and clinical skills.
- Evidence of continued professional development in Ophthalmology.
- Educated to, or working towards degree level or equivalent level of experience.
- Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
