Role purpose
To have day-to-day responsibilities of running a section of a site, liaising with and answerable to the Site Supervisor. Taking the lead on site activities and to be the first point of contact for weekly site-based employees.
Assisting Supervisor with the safe and efficient running of the contract on site, the management of equipment including resource and supporting to ensure that the company HSEQ system is implemented. Assisting Supervisor in promoting Excellence, Teamwork, Integrity and Respect.
Chargehand must remain self-aware and promote best practice and company values at all times.
Chargehand must ensure that they are familiar with the relevant company policies and procedures and that these are followed at all times.
What you'll be doing
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Support the Site Supervisor with the safe and efficient running of site activities.
- Help maintain HSE standards, promote Zero Harm and support site safety initiatives.
- Assist with setting people to work, delivering task briefings and toolbox talks, and checking understanding.
- Coordinate day-to-day site logistics, including labour, plant, materials, transport and equipment.
- Monitor progress, daily checks and site records, escalating issues that may affect delivery.
- Ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with project plans, schedules and specifications.
- Support quality assurance activities, including checklists, observations, as-built records and NCR processes.
- Work with site teams, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to support production and contractual requirements.
- Promote best practice, company procedures and the values of Excellence, Teamwork, Integrity and Respect.
- Support continuous improvement across safety, quality, sustainability and site performance.

Who we're looking for
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Have experience working on construction or ground engineering sites, ideally with knowledge of piling techniques.
- Possess knowledge of site method statements, risk assessments, procedures and site-specific rules.
- Hold a strong commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Have confident communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with operatives, supervisors and site management.
- Have an awareness of programme requirements, site planning and the importance of efficient logistics.
- Possess basic IT skills and awareness of digital construction or site management tools.
- Hold relevant qualifications such as CSCS Skilled Piling Operative, CPCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, First Aid and Fit for Role Safety Critical Medical.
- Take a collaborative, proactive approach with the ability to promote best practice and support team development.
