Chargehand for Overhead Lines

Circet Ireland and Northern Ireland's Power Division are currently recruiting for a Chargehand for Overhead Lines.

About the Role

The Chargehand Overhead Linesman is the lead member of the site-based construction team, responsible for supervising and delivering overhead line works safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards on networks up to and including 33kV.

The role requires leading from the front, setting the standard for safety, productivity, and workmanship while ensuring compliance with procedures, client requirements, and cost controls. The Chargehand must be comfortable operating in a challenging, dynamic, team-based environment and act as the key link between site operatives and site supervision.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and coordinate site construction activities for overhead line maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and renewal works in accordance with approved work instructions and programmes.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in full compliance with current and future health & safety legislation, electricity safety rules, relevant standards, and company procedures.
  • Supervise and support linesmen and operatives on site, providing clear direction, technical guidance, and leadership on both safety and productivity.
  • Work closely with the Site Supervisor, cooperating fully and following all instructions, controls, and precautions as directed.
  • Interface effectively with site supervision, client representatives, customer representatives, and other stakeholders to support safe and efficient delivery of works.
  • Ensure all allocated work packs, permits, and documentation are completed accurately, recorded correctly, and submitted within required timescales.
  • Provide technical input and on-site decision-making within the scope of the Chargehand role and authorisations.
  • Ensure near misses, good catches, hazards, and safety observations are reported promptly and appropriately.
  • Carry out work at height on poles and towers in a safe and professional manner, including the use of MEWPs where required.
  • Actively participate in and undertake overhead line maintenance, repair, and refurbishment works as required, leading by example.
  • Ensure tools, plant, and equipment are used correctly and in accordance with the Overhead Line (OHL) Manual and manufacturer guidance.
  • Take responsibility for safe and professional conduct when working on or near customer property, ensuring minimal disruption and a high standard of workmanship.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
