A highly regarded London law firm is looking to appoint an Associate (2–5 PQE) to join its market-leading Charities and Not-for-Profit practice.

With a longstanding reputation in the sector, the firm advises a wide range of prominent charities, educational institutions, cultural organisations and philanthropic foundations on some of their most significant legal and strategic matters.

The Charities team is consistently recognised by both Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners for its technical expertise, commercial insight and collaborative approach. The team advises on a full spectrum of charity law issues and is trusted by many of the UK's leading charitable and not-for-profit organisations.

The Role

This role offers the opportunity to advise on a broad range of charity law matters, working closely with high-profile clients on complex and often multi-jurisdictional issues. The successful candidate will provide advice across charity law, governance, regulatory compliance, charity tax, trusts and philanthropic giving.

Typical matters include:

  • Charity structuring, formation and restructuring projects
  • Governance, constitutional and trustee advisory work
  • Trading activities and relationships with non-charitable subsidiaries
  • Charity tax and fundraising regulation
  • Regulatory matters involving the Charity Commission and other sector regulators
  • Corporate, commercial and trust law issues affecting charities and not-for-profit organisations

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 2–5 years' PQE
  • Demonstrable experience advising on charity law matters, alongside strong commercial and/or trust law expertise
  • Excellent academic credentials and training gained at a recognised law firm
  • Strong technical drafting, communication and client-management skills
  • Commercially aware, proactive and enthusiastic about developing a profile within the charity and not-for-profit sector
  • A collaborative approach and genuine interest in building a long-term career in this specialist area of practice
