I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will you be doing?
Black-heritage students' outcomes lag behind those of their peers in both the higher education and early careers sectors.
At With Insight Education, our social mission is to address this inequality by removing the perceptual and structural barriers that black-heritage students face.
Since launching in 2018, our structured mentoring programmes have empowered over 1,500 students with the confidence, insight and interpersonal skills needed to shape brighter futures with greater opportunities for social mobility. We also work in an advisory capacity with the university sector, designing programmes and training staff to better support our cohort of young people.

Although we are a charity, the majority of our finance, to date, has come from traded income. We are hugely ambitious about our future and have identified that we need additional HR, ESG and Philanthropy guidance to achieve our goals.
The ideal candidates will be agile minded, happy to share their knowledge and possess influential communication skills. An understanding of governance is desirable although prior experience of being a Trustee is not required.
Given the nature of our work, we particularly welcome candidates who have lived experience of the inequalities that we seek to address and/or have experience of working closely with the community that With Insight Education serves.
