The Marillac Neurological Care Centre | Brentwood, Essex | 1–2 days per month
About Us
At The Marillac Neurological Care Centre, we believe that everyone living with a neurological or complex physical disability deserves specialist care, rehabilitation and the opportunity to live with dignity, purpose and independence.
Marillac is a not-for-profit independent charity providing specialist care and rehabilitation pathways for adults with complex or progressive neurological conditions, including brain injury, trauma, infection, stroke and spinal cord injuries. Our centre in Brentwood is set within four acres of landscaped gardens and includes 52 beds across three units and bungalows, alongside a fully equipped physiotherapy gym, Occupational Therapy skills kitchen, sensory room and a range of high- and low-tech neurotechnology.
As we look to the future, we are seeking passionate, skilled and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help shape Marillac's next chapter.
The Role
As a Trustee, you will provide strategic leadership, oversight and constructive challenge alongside fellow Board members and the executive team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Helping shape Marillac's purpose, vision, strategy and future direction.
- Approving strategic plans and monitoring their implementation and impact.
- Providing oversight of financial performance and the long-term sustainability of the charity.
- Identifying and overseeing key risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
- Supporting and constructively challenging the CEO and executive team.
- Keeping informed about the environment in which Marillac operates and the opportunities and challenges facing the organisation.
- Ensuring effective governance and fulfilling the legal and regulatory responsibilities of a charity Trustee.
- Attending and contributing to Board meetings and other relevant activities.
- Acting in the best interests of Marillac and its charitable purpose.
- Using your professional expertise, experience and networks to help promote and strengthen the work of MNCC.

About You
No previous Trustee experience is required as a full induction and support will be provided. We are particularly interested in candidates with professional experience in Finance or Legal Services, though relevant expertise from other backgrounds is equally welcome.
You will bring:
- Strategic thinking and the ability to look beyond day-to-day operational matters.
- Independent judgement and the confidence to constructively challenge and contribute to Board discussions.
- A willingness to commit the necessary time, energy and preparation to the role.
- The ability to listen, collaborate and work effectively as part of a diverse Board.
- An understanding of, or willingness to develop an understanding of, the legal and governance responsibilities of a charity Trustee.
- A genuine commitment to Marillac's charitable purpose and the people we support.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
