Charles Rago

Bamboo trees, cookie dough, and DJ Rago. What do these three things have to do with each other, you ask? Well, that answer can be summed up by one phrase: patience is key.

Charles Rago started DJing at the age of twelve where he and his brother would go back and forth on the turntables after piecing together whatever audio equipment they could find at home. It was a labor of love, born out of a passion for music and wanting to share it with others.

Charles laughs now when he shares that it took him a full decade to figure out how to match beats and actually mix music together. Like a bamboo tree that takes years before it breaks the surface, that time was spent creating the foundation for rapid growth later on. Apparently, a little patience goes a long way. As further proof of its virtue, any pastry chef will tell you that chilling your cookie dough before baking in the oven is vital so that the texture and flavors properly develop.

It’s all the work taking place behind the scenes, often invisible to the eye, that can transform something good into something great.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

For DJ Rago, those ten years were spent watching crowds, paying attention to their energy and engagement, and learning how to read each element of a party like a true pro. He wasn’t obsessed with the perfect mix so he was willing to try new and unexpected song sets that people would love. He wasn’t head down behind the board the whole event so he learned how to become the ambassador of the party, noticing how important it was to give each person in attendance his time and attention.

“It’s that conscientious care,” Charles explains, “that allows me to bring my customer service to another level.”

When he eventually mastered beat matching, it unlocked a whole new dimension of his craft. He could visualize the music in multiple layers, simultaneously seeing how genre, tempo, pitch, melody, and lyrics could all be manipulated to create the right vibe for every moment of a party. Adding this skill to his already strong foundation was almost like a cheat code and, just like the bamboo tree, his performance grew rapidly.

Since then, Charles has taken his talents (and beautiful family) to different parts of the state. He quickly became a fan favorite the last time he was in the Bay Area and working for Denon & Doyle. Now that he’s back in the Bay, DJ Rago is ready to help his clients have the time of their lives. He wants to share his wisdom, his experience, and a love for music that is unmatched.

The only downside of booking him for your event is having to actually wait for the day of your party to arrive, but as his story has shown us, patience is key.
