Purpose Of the Role:

The Charter & Operations Coordinator is responsible for managing European road freight movements from quotation through to delivery and invoicing, ensuring excellent customer service, operational efficiency, and profitability. The role focuses on building strong relationships with carriers and partners, coordinating export capacity, supporting network quotations, and maintaining smooth day-to-day operations across the UK and European network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full charter shipment process from quotation and booking through to delivery and invoicing.
  • Source cost-effective transport solutions while maintaining service quality and profitability.
  • Negotiate competitive rates with subcontractors and carriers.
  • Monitor shipments, provide customer updates, and resolve operational issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, hauliers, and transport providers.
  • Develop the supplier network to increase capacity and flexibility across European operations.
  • Plan and coordinate export trailer departures to UK, Irish, and European destinations.
  • Maximise trailer utilisation and ensure efficient use of available capacity.
  • Work closely with UK and European branches to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records, operational data, and reporting.
  • Investigate delays and service failures, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Produce reports to monitor operational performance and profitability.
  • Support spot quotations for DACHSER network shipments.
  • Assist with customer queries, shipment tracking, and issue resolution.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through professional and proactive communication.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Support the growth of European export operations through effective planning and supplier management.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of European road freight operations.
  • Experience in transport planning, freight forwarding, chartering or logistics operations.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to negotiate competitive transport rates.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse operational data and identify areas for improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high service standards.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with both internal stakeholders and external transport partners.
  • Strong IT and data management skills, with the ability to maintain accurate operational records and reports.
