Chartered Building Surveyor

I’m currently working with an established property consultancy to appoint a Chartered Building Surveyor into their London Building Consultancy team.
This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to get away from repetitive instructions and work across a genuinely varied mix of professional surveying, project work and client advisory.

The work is varied. Recent projects have included:
- The £3.1m conversion of a former factory in Portslade

- External works at 3 Cadogan Square in Chelsea
Your role will include:
- Contract Administration and Project Management on projects up to £1m
- Technical Due Diligence and Dilapidations
- Some Party Wall matters
- Building surveys, defect diagnosis, and technical advice
- Construction monitoring
- Planning and development advice
- Managing projects from initial brief through to completion
- Developing existing client relationships and winning new instructions
- Mentoring and supporting junior surveyors

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
