Job Title: Surveyor / Senior Surveyor / Associate Director

Department: Building Consultancy - Project & Building Consultancy Team

Working with commercial property owners, investors, developers and occupiers we partner with household names across many sectors in both the private and public sector. We advise on all aspects of the commercial property lifecycle including, investment, leasing, valuation, development and asset management.

Our Project & Building Consultancy teams advise our clients on the full spectrum of Building Consultancy, Cost Management and Project Management services.

The Building Consultancy element of this team undertakes a range of professional instructions including dilapidations, technical due diligence, project monitoring, acquisition surveys, schedules of condition, PPM’s, feasibility studies, party walls, reinstatement cost assessments, defect advice, together with contract administration, employer’s agent and project management services. The clients include owners and occupiers and encompass a range of property types with live instructions within the retail, office, leisure, residential industrial and logistics sectors.

Our nationwide Project and Cost Management teams are currently delivering a variety of project management, contract administration and cost management instructions across numerous sectors on complex £multi-million new build, reconfiguration, asset enhancement and refurbishment schemes. We collaborate across the Building Consultancy, Cost Management, Project Management and all other LSH teams to support our clients across the full spectrum of LSH services on offer.

Role Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Building Surveyor to join our Building Consultancy department in London. The team deals with a range of occupier, investor, developer and public sector clients across all sectors.

The successful candidate will join a busy office and be working alongside other internal teams including Agency (office and industrial & logistics), Investment, Planning Infrastructure & Regeneration, Valuations, Property Management and Rating to provide blended property and construction best in class advice to our clients.

We are looking for an ambitious, outward looking Building Surveyor with a desire to join a growing team to develop their career within a UK managed business. LSH have significant growth aspirations, and it is intended the role will benefit from this in terms of professional and personal growth and development.

The successful candidate will have the ability to develop new business, provide technical expertise, and mentor the next generation of professionals within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out building inspections and produce professional reports – undertaking surveys and documenting findings clearly.
  • Prepare technical specifications and oversee repair/refurbishment contracts – drafting requirements and administering contract delivery.
  • Develop and negotiate dilapidation schedules and exit strategies – advising on lease-end obligations and practical solutions.
  • Create planned preventative maintenance programmes – designing structured plans to safeguard long-term asset performance.
  • Conduct reinstatement cost evaluations – assessing rebuilding values for insurance and compliance purposes.
  • Assist with portfolio coordination and handle additional duties as required – supporting portfolio instructions and taking on ad‑hoc responsibilities.
  • Build lasting client relationships – maintaining strong links with internal and external stakeholders while delivering excellent service.

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Highly motivated, proactive, and enthusiastic – able to drive tasks forward independently.
  • Capable of working both collaboratively and on own initiative – adaptable to team settings or solo responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and analytical ability – confident with numbers, verbal skills, and professional report writing.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills – able to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible and resilient under pressure – able to adapt quickly to changing demands.
  • Professional presentation with outstanding interpersonal skills – able to engage confidently with clients and colleagues.
  • Chartered MRICS Building Surveyor – with proven post‑qualification experience, ideally gained in a commercial consultancy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Full, clean driving licence – enabling travel as required.
