About the Opportunity
If you are a Chartered Building Surveyor looking for more than a standard reporting role, this is a strong opportunity to join a growing, RICS-accredited practice where you can stay close to clients, broaden your technical exposure and have a visible impact in a smaller team.
The team is currently made up of the business owner and three surveyors, all of whom are either Chartered or being supported on their path to Chartership. It is a busy, close-knit environment where the right person will add experienced support, help strengthen delivery and play a meaningful role as the business continues to develop.
The work will include RICS Level 2 and Level 3 residential surveys, defect diagnosis, client advice, repair and refurbishment projects, contract administration and party wall matters across Devon and the surrounding region.
You do not need to have done all of this in equal measure. The priority is that you are chartered, technically credible, confident in front of clients and interested in building a broader role over time.
It should suit someone who enjoys residential survey work but wants greater scope, or a general practice surveyor who likes the idea of combining inspections with more involved technical and professional instructions.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a hands-on surveying role with a mix of inspections, reporting, project delivery and professional instructions. Typical responsibilities will include:

- Carrying out RICS Home Survey Level 2 and Level 3 inspections
- Diagnosing defects and advising clients on clear, practical next steps
- Preparing accurate, proportionate and easy-to-understand technical reports
- Supporting repair, alteration, refurbishment and extension projects
- Producing schedules of work, specifications and tender documents
- Acting as Contract Administrator on suitable projects, including contractor liaison, valuations, progress monitoring and practical completion
- Assisting with party wall appointments, notices, schedules of condition and awards where appropriate
About You
This would suit a rounded, client-facing surveyor who takes pride in quality advice and wants to keep developing. You will ideally bring:
- MRICS or FRICS status
- Post-qualification experience within Building Surveying
- Residential survey, inspection, building pathology and technical reporting experience
- Confidence preparing scopes, schedules of work or specifications for repair/refurbishment projects
- Exposure to contract administration, JCT contracts or party wall matters would be useful, but is not essential across every area
- Strong communication, sound judgement and a collaborative approach with colleagues and clients

- Salary of £45,000 to £55,000, plus allowances
