Chartered / Incorporated Structural Engineer
Residential Insurance | M4 Corridor & South West

A specialist structural engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Chartered or Incorporated Structural Engineer to join its expanding team across the M4 corridor and South West.
This is a specialist opportunity for an engineer with established experience in residential insurance claims, structural investigations, building defects, and property damage.
Our client provides specialist structural engineering services to the residential insurance market, working with insurers, loss adjusters, homeowners, and other stakeholders to investigate property damage and establish appropriate engineering solutions.
The Role
You will undertake structural investigations of residential properties where damage or defects have occurred, providing expert engineering advice throughout the insurance claims process.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out inspections of residential properties
- Investigating structural damage and building defects
- Assessing damage resulting from insured perils, including subsidence, escape of water, storm damage, impact, fire, and other property-related events
- Investigating causation and determining the extent of damage
- Developing appropriate repair and remedial solutions
- Preparing detailed structural engineering reports
- Providing professional opinions and technical recommendations
- Liaising with insurers, loss adjusters, policyholders, and contractors
- Reviewing repair proposals and providing technical input where required
- Managing a portfolio of claims and ensuring reports are completed within required timescales
- Attending site meetings and providing technical advice throughout the claims process

About You
The successful candidate will have a strong combination of structural engineering expertise and residential insurance experience.
Essential requirements include:
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
- A relevant Civil or Structural Engineering qualification
- Proven experience within residential property insurance
- Experience investigating structural damage and building defects
- Good understanding of residential insurance perils and claims
- Experience assessing causation and developing remedial solutions
- Strong technical report-writing skills
- Experience dealing with insurers, loss adjusters, and policyholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage your own workload and caseload effectively
- Full UK driving licence

Location
The position is focused on the M4 corridor and South West, with candidates potentially based around Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Reading, Newbury, Gloucester, Oxford, and surrounding areas.
The role will involve travel to residential properties across the region.
