About APM

We’re Association for Project Management (APM). We’re a professional membership organisation that sets the standards for the project profession. As a registered charity, we reinvest our surplus for the benefit of our members and the profession. We deliver education and develop qualifications. We conduct research and provide knowledge and resources. We run events and share best practice. We give people the opportunity to connect and provide community for our individual members and corporate partners, wherever they are. Above all, when doing so makes a difference, we challenge the status quo.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for project management subject matter experts to be involved in qualification and assessment development. We'd like to hear from suitably qualified and experienced project professionals who are interested in getting involved in this area of work.

About the role

We are looking for experienced project professionals to join us as Item Writers for the Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) Standard. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to the development of high-quality, fair and robust assessments for the project profession.

Item Writers will create assessment items for both the technical knowledge examination and the accountability and complexity assessment. Working remotely, and following comprehensive training, you will develop questions and associated mark schemes in line with a detailed brief and the ChPP assessment specification.

Assessment development is collaborative and iterative. You will receive support and feedback from your APM contact and fellow Item Writers throughout the process.

What you will do

  • Complete all mandatory training and meet agreed deadlines for item writing and peer review.
  • Create clear, accurate and appropriately challenging assessment items that meet the item-writing brief and align with the ChPP competence criteria.
  • Develop robust mark schemes that identify the knowledge, features and evidence expected in a high-quality candidate response, including the allocation of marks against each criterion.
  • Ensure assessment content is inclusive and avoids discrimination and bias.
  • Peer review questions and mark schemes produced by other Item Writers, providing constructive written feedback.
  • Respond proactively to feedback and revise questions and mark schemes where required.
  • Maintain regular contact with APM and complete any associated administrative activities to specified deadlines.
  • Protect the confidentiality and security of all assessment materials.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
