Job Description
Overview
You’ll play a leading role in delivering projects within our Building Structures team in Manchester, taking responsibility for the technical delivery, leadership and coordination of design across a varied client base. Our work is underpinned by a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, ethics, and safety, and you’ll be instrumental in embedding these principles in everything you do.
You will lead the design and delivery of projects, provide technical oversight, and actively support the development and mentoring of engineers within the team, while working closely with clients and multi-disciplinary colleagues.

Our Manchester office operates a hybrid working model, with team members typically based in the office three days a week, providing a strong balance between collaboration and flexibility.
Our Manchester office is involved in a vast array of work, including Industrial and Commercial developments, Education schemes, Asset Inspections, Refurbishments, Civil Infrastructure and Rail projects.
As a Chartered Structural Engineer, you’ll take a lead role in delivering technically challenging and high-profile schemes, working closely with experienced engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to drive quality and innovation, while supporting and mentoring junior colleagues as they develop their skills and experience.
Your role
As a Chartered Structural Engineer, you will:
- Lead engineering delivery across a wide range of building structures projects, oversee project delivery from concept through to detailed design and construction.
- Champion innovative, efficient and sustainable solutions.
- Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and geographies.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting their professional growth, provide structured mentoring, coaching and technical guidance.
- Lead the structural design of projects from concept through to completion.
- Take responsibility for technical quality and compliance with relevant standards.
- Manage and coordinate project teams and inputs across disciplines.
- Act as lead designer or discipline lead on projects.
- Support the professional development of team members, including those working towards chartership.
- Review and approve design calculations, reports, and drawings.
- Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Represent the business at design meetings, site visits, and technical reviews.
- Ensure delivery of projects within agreed programme and budget constraints.
- Drive innovation, digital delivery, and best practice in design.
- Maintain and promote high standards of health, safety and sustainability.

About you
You’ll bring strong technical capability, leadership skills, and a collaborative approach:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IStructE or ICE.
- Significant experience in structural design across a variety of sectors.
- Proven track record in design delivery with specific experience of; steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber designs from concept to detailed delivery, foundation design and structural analysis including construction delivery.
- Strong understanding of design using traditional materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry) to Eurocodes.
- Proven experience leading projects and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrable experience mentoring and developing junior engineers and supporting chartership progression.
- Familiarity with structural analysis and BIM tools (e.g. Robot, Revit).
- Strong communication, leadership and client-facing skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Interest in digital engineering, automation, and modern methods of construction.
- Proactive, adaptable, and solution-focused mindset.
