CHEF / ASSISTANT CHEF WANTED – CHELMSFORD

Job Description:

Arugam Bay (an award-winning restaurant) is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and reliable Chef / Assistant Chef to join our growing team in Chelmsford.

Pay:

£14–£16 per hour, depending on experience

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Chef or Assistant Chef
  • Experience and good knowledge of Asian cuisine and Asian cooking techniques
  • Strong wok cooking skills and confidence working in a busy kitchen
  • Knowledge of Sri Lankan cuisine would be a strong advantage, particularly dishes such as Kottu and Hoppers
  • Good understanding of food hygiene, food safety and kitchen cleanliness standards
  • Good organisational, documentation and record-keeping skills
  • Strong work ethic with a positive and professional attitude
  • A genuine team player who communicates well with others
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain standards under pressure
  • Ability to support, encourage and motivate other kitchen staff
  • Ability to communicate and work closely with Front of House and Management
  • Good understanding of food preparation, stock control and reducing unnecessary food waste
  • Creative and innovative, with the confidence to contribute new dishes and ideas
  • Reliable, punctual and committed to maintaining consistently high standards
