Job Purpose
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Chef to join our kitchen team. The successful candidate will be capable of working across all sections of the kitchen, including starters, mains, desserts, preparation, breakfast service, and larder. You will be responsible for maintaining high food quality standards, ensuring excellent kitchen hygiene, and complying with all Health & Safety and food allergen regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes to company standards across all kitchen sections.
- Work efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Assist with menu preparation, specials, and seasonal dishes.
- Ensure all food is prepared and stored according to food safety requirements.
- Support stock rotation procedures using FIFO (First In, First Out).
- Minimise food wastage and contribute to cost control measures.
- Assist with stock takes and deliveries when required.
- Maintain clean and organised workstations throughout service.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with the Head Chef, Sous Chef, and wider kitchen team.
- Support colleagues across different sections as business demands require.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior kitchen staff where appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams.

Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Comply fully with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness at all times.
- Follow safe working procedures when operating kitchen equipment, machinery, and knives.
- Report accidents, hazards, defects, or near misses immediately.
- Ensure cleaning schedules are completed accurately and on time.
- Adhere to Food Safety and HACCP procedures.
Allergen Management
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the 14 legally recognised food allergens.
- Follow allergen control procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
- Ensure allergen information is accurate and readily available.
- Communicate allergen-related information clearly to senior chefs and front-of-house teams.
- Follow company procedures when preparing meals for guests with dietary requirements.
- Maintain accurate labelling and storage practices.
Essential Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience working as a Chef in a busy commercial kitchen.
- Ability to confidently work across multiple kitchen sections.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and presentation.
- Understanding of Food Hygiene and Food Safety regulations.
- Knowledge of HACCP procedures.
- Good understanding of allergen legislation and allergen management.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet service deadlines.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum).
- COSHH awareness.
- Experience in hotel, restaurant, or high-volume catering environments.
- Additional culinary qualifications.
