University Arms is a 192-bedroom design-led Hotel situated in the heart of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Overlooking Parker’s Piece is the Hotel’s quintessentially British Restaurant and Bar Parker’s Tavern, Library Lounge, and beautiful 272 square metre wood-panelled Ballroom.

Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. For 180 years, the Hotel was added to, updated, and modernised in line with the age; however, it was the reopening in 2018 after a four-year £80m full renovation that really positioned the Hotel. It is now Cambridge's 'go to’ destination, alluring visitors with the promise of a sense of modern luxury.

What Will You Be Doing

The Chef de Partie – Kitchen & Pastry is responsible for overseeing a designated section of the kitchen while supporting both savoury and pastry production. The role ensures the consistent preparation, cooking, baking, and presentation of high-quality food and desserts in accordance with company standards. Working closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef, the Chef de Partie helps deliver exceptional dining experiences while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen organisation. THE DUTIES

  • Prepare, cook, bake, and present a wide range of savoury dishes, pastries, desserts, breads, and baked goods to the highest standards.
  • Take responsibility for a designated kitchen section, ensuring efficient preparation and service during each shift.
  • Support both the main kitchen and pastry operations, adapting to business needs and service demands.
  • Ensured consistent quality, portion control, and presentation across both kitchen and pastry production.
  • Produced desserts and bakery items while supporting hot kitchen service during busy periods.
  • Support high-volume production for afternoon teas & desserts.
  • Maintain food quality, consistency, and portion control in line with standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP, and hygiene regulations.
  • Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising waste.
  • Train and mentor Commis Chefs within your section.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen team to deliver smooth service.

What Are We Looking For In You

  • Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Demi Chef de Partie, Pastry Chef, or in a similar role within a hotel, restaurant, bakery, or catering environment.
  • Proven experience preparing both savoury dishes and pastry items, including desserts, cakes, breads, pastries, and baked goods.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, baking methods, and presentation standards.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Competent level of spoken and written English.
  • Must be available to work a varied schedule including early & late shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Approachable person, with a hands-on and can-do attitude.

PAY

£13.59 per hour (before tax and deductions) plus £2.60 per hour in Tronc.
