The vacancy

Are you an experienced catering and hospitality professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of chefs? DN Colleges is seeking a part-time Chef Lecturer to join our Catering and Hospitality team.

In this role, you will support students to achieve their culinary qualifications while preparing them for successful careers within the hospitality industry. You will deliver high-quality teaching, provide academic and pastoral support, and create an engaging learning environment that enables learners to thrive.

Alongside teaching, you will play a key role in maintaining professional kitchen and restaurant standards, ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements. You will also contribute to curriculum development, student recruitment activities, quality assurance processes, and the continued success of the department. Flexibility is required to support events and themed evenings within the student-operated Waterfront restaurant.

This is a fixed-term, part-time opportunity working 21.5 hours per week.

Actual salary as per 21.5 hours £20,462.54- £25,900.53 (Full time equivalent of £33,787- £42,766)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning, assessment and tutorial support within Catering and Hospitality programmes.
  • Act as a Programme Tutor, providing academic and pastoral guidance to students.
  • Prepare learning materials, assess student work, monitor progress and maintain accurate learner records.
  • Support students in developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for employment in the hospitality industry.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, health and safety, and kitchen management.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor attendance, achievement and progression, taking appropriate action to support learner success.
  • Build and maintain effective links with employers and external stakeholders, including supporting work experience opportunities.
  • Participate in student recruitment, enrolment, open events and promotional activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an outstanding student experience.

Essential Criteria

  • Level 3 professional qualification in a relevant catering or hospitality discipline.
  • Food Safety qualification.
  • Minimum Level 2 Maths and English.
  • At least three years' experience working within a catering and hospitality environment.
  • Level 5 teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards achieving one.

Important Things to Note

In DN Colleges we call this role Chef Lecturer but you might know this as Catering Lecturer, Hospitality Lecturer, Culinary Arts Lecturer, Professional Cookery Lecturer or Catering and Hospitality Tutor.

  • This is a fixed-term, part-time position working 21.5 hours per week.
  • The role requires flexibility to support occasional evening, weekend and restaurant events.
  • The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
  • We are not looking for agency support for this role.
