Role Description

The Chef Manager role is a full-time, on-site position based in Birmingham. The Chef Manager will oversee all kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, cooking, and service, ensuring that all meals meet Cater Link’s fresh and healthy food standards. This role involves leading and training the catering team, managing stock and ordering supplies, and maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety. The Chef Manager will be responsible for monitoring budgets, controlling costs, and supporting service delivery that aligns with school requirements and client expectations. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating meal times, liaising with school staff, responding to feedback, and ensuring a positive dining experience for children and young adults.

  • Strong skills in food preparation and cooking, with the ability to produce fresh, nutritious meals at volume.
  • Experience in food and beverage operations, including service standards and kitchen workflow.
  • Knowledge of food quality, food safety, and hygiene regulations, with a commitment to best practices.
  • Proven culinary management capabilities, including team leadership and kitchen administration.
  • Relevant catering or culinary qualification (e.g., NVQ or equivalent) and food hygiene certification.
  • Experience in school or contract catering is desirable, with an understanding of children’s dietary needs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with clients, school staff, and team members.
