Join Marton Care Homes and Become Part of the South Shields Community
At Marton Care Homes, we believe that great care starts with compassion, respect, and a genuine commitment to helping people live fulfilling lives. As a family-run care group, we create warm and welcoming homes where residents are treated with dignity, encouraged to remain independent, and supported to enjoy every day.
At The Lodge in South Shields, we are proud to be part of a town known for its rich maritime heritage, strong community spirit, and friendly atmosphere. From generations of shipbuilders and seafarers to the thriving local community seen today, South Shields has always been a place where people look out for one another. Those same values are at the heart of our home.
We're looking for a passionate and dedicated Chef/Cook to join our team and help create nutritious, delicious meals that bring comfort, enjoyment, and a sense of home to our residents.
Food plays a special role in care home life. A favourite meal can spark memories, encourage conversation, and create moments of happiness. As our Chef/Cook, you'll help make every dining experience something residents look forward to.
About The Role
As Chef/Cook, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering nutritious, high-quality meals that cater to residents' preferences, dietary requirements, and individual tastes.
You'll lead by example within the kitchen, maintaining excellent food safety standards while creating an inviting dining experience that reflects the warmth and community spirit of The Lodge.
What You'll Be Doing

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
