COMMERCIAL LOAN OFFICER
Groton, CT
Reports To: Commercial Lending Department Manager
Level: E‑8
The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for developing, negotiating terms and servicing commercial loan and account businesses as well as generating and maintaining an effective client base in alignment with the Bank’s strategic goals, policies, and procedures. This role focuses on generating new business, deepening existing client relationships, and ensuring sound credit decisions while delivering exceptional service.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong credit acumen, relationship-building skills, and a commitment to supporting the Bank’s mission of prudent growth, community engagement, and outstanding customer experience.
Primary Responsibilities
- Carries out ongoing business development programs to promote the Bank’s lending services. Calls on prospective and existing clients to nurture ongoing relationships and to market and cross sell other Bank services.
- Interviews applicants for commercial C& I and Commercial mortgages and other loans; conducts or coordinates analysis of credit information and approves loans within lending authority. Presents loans above individual authority for approval by the appropriate individual, committee, or Board of Trustees.
- Serves as Account Officer. Maintains up-to-date records of transactions in conformance with loan policies and provides continuing financial counseling to customers. Monitors the borrower’s financial condition on an ongoing basis; reviews financial statements, credit analyses and other information to make an evaluation. Makes recommendations on problem situations including loan workouts.
- Keeps abreast of regulatory and competitive developments within the area of Commercial Lending. Attends relevant courses and seminars.
- Promotes the Bank’s products and services and maintains active participation in community affairs.
- Responsible for adhering to bank policies and procedures related to regulatory compliance requirements applicable to the job function.
- Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in specialized course work and training.
- Three years of progressively responsible commercial mortgage and business lending experience.
- Sound credit background.
- Able to analyze financial statements.
- Very strong analytical, organizational, communication and decision making skills.
- Proficient in spreadsheet software.
