Under the supervision of the Manager, Chemical Process Engineering, the Chemical Process Engineer is primarily responsible for developing processes and measurement techniques for manufacturing electrochemical biosensors. Development of processes will take place in conjunction with mechanical engineers and R&D scientists to develop a robust dispensing and measurement system. In addition, the Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for interpreting analytical sensor performance and establishing process controls for manufacturing the device. The Chemical Process Engineer will assist in the implementation of improvements in both testing and chemical preparation processes by designing and performing experiments and creating technical documents (e.g. Process and Equipment Validation protocols, Engineering Reports, Engineering Changes, Designed Experiments, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Test Method Developments) to support the efficient manufacturing of Siemens Healthineers products in a manner consistent with CGMP and the Siemens Healthineers Quality Management System (QMS). Furthermore, the Chemical Process Engineer will participate and play a leadership role in development projects related to improving sensor performance and reagent solutions through wet chemical formulation development. The Chemical Process Engineer is expected to be self-reliant and motivated to work independently, while maintaining close working relationships and communication with colleagues and management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead projects related to design transfer, process development, validation and analytical performance of electrochemical biosensors.
- Train and guide dispense operators, chemical preparation operators, and test technicians.
- Writing and developing SOPs, process work instructions, inline measurements techniques, test procedures, and data analysis techniques for manufacturing electrochemical biosensor devices.
- Perform experiments and iterate on experimental results for manufacturing projects to improve sensor performance, yield, measurement techniques for process inputs.
- Understand and utilize wet chemical techniques for experimentation and process improvements of polymer and aqueous solutions.
- Troubleshoot equipment operation during the development of manufacturing line and dispensing processes.
- Understands the Siemens Healthineers Quality Management System and successfully operate within its constraints.
- Establishes productive relationships with personnel from engineering, Research and Development, quality assurance, and other groups, including external suppliers.
- Communicates with supervisor and others when issues are detected and improvements are required.

Key Contacts

Job Demands
- Attention to detail while maintaining the ability to multi-task and manage testing timelines is essential.
- Leadership and guidance of new and junior team members.
- Detailed understanding of process inputs on the performance of electrochemical biosensors.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Skills & Qualifications (Education and Experience)
- Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is desired, but other relevant disciplines such as Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering may be considered.
- Post graduate education in chemistry or engineering and related industrial experience would be advantageous.
- Experience in process development and validation for manufacturing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of statistical tools and application of statistical software programs (JMP, Minitab).

The Expected Compensation for This Position
$70,000 - $100,000
Factors which may affect starting compensation within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
