Job Description

Chemical Waste Specialist

Location

Romford

Contract Type

Full-time, permanent

Working Hours

Monday - Friday, 6am - 2.30pm

What You Will Do

The Chemical Waste Specialist's primary responsibility is to actively manage and process the receipt, storage, processing, and disposal of hazardous waste in all work streams.

Your Key Responsibilities Include

  • Manage waste operations end-to-end, including preparation, handling, storage, and coordination of waste shipments.
  • Plan, prepare, and oversee waste collections, including load creation, palletisation, and ensuring safe loading practices during collection activities.
  • Operate a forklift for the weekly collection pickup of waste, in line with site procedures and licence requirements.
  • Ensure all waste is correctly segregated, classified, labelled, and packaged in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate waste documentation, including consignment notes, hazardous waste records, and contractor documentation, ensuring full compliance with legal requirements.
  • Verify all waste documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the preparation and submission of waste-related documentation to contractors and regulatory bodies where required.
  • Monitor waste metrics, including volumes, costs, and trends, and support reporting to drive cost control and continuous improvement.

About You

You will have experience working with chemicals, hazardous materials or controlled substances in a regulated environment, with a strong understanding of safe handling, storage, segregation and disposal requirements. Organised, safety-conscious and detail-focused, you will be confident maintaining accurate records, identifying risks, and working collaboratively with teams to support compliance, continuous improvement and a positive HSSE culture.

Basic Skills And Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with chemicals, hazardous materials, or controlled substances in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, laboratory, warehouse, or regulated environment.
  • Good understanding of COSHH requirements, chemical labelling, safe storage, segregation, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
