Arcania Apothecary is looking for a talented, proactive and commercially minded Formulation / Development Chemist to join our growing Technical & Development team.
We are looking for someone who loves formulation, enjoys working directly with customers and wants to take real ownership of projects.
This is not just a bench-based formulation role. The successful candidate will manage their own development projects and customer accounts, working closely with clients and our internal Technical, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Commercial teams to take products from the initial brief through formulation, testing, scale-up and manufacture.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong hands-on formulation and product development experience within cosmetics and personal care
- Ability to formulate across a broad range of product categories, including skincare, body care, hair care, cleansing products, surfactant systems, emulsions, anhydrous products and other cosmetic formats
- Confidence managing multiple customer projects and development accounts
- Ability to interpret customer briefs and turn ideas into technically robust, commercially viable formulations
- Good understanding of raw materials, formulation chemistry, preservation, pH, viscosity, stability and product performance
- Experience supporting scale-up and troubleshooting from laboratory through to manufacturing
- Excellent organisation, communication and documentation skills
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and willingness to take ownership
- Friendly, approachable and confident working collaboratively with customers and colleagues
- Curious and open-minded, with a genuine interest in ingredients, innovation and new formulation technologies

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
