Chemistry Lecturer

Salary: £6,689.19 - £9,015.20 per annum (pro rata actual salary)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 7.5 hours per week, Friday only

Are you passionate about Chemistry and looking for an opportunity to inspire students across further and higher-level study?

As a Chemistry Lecturer at New College Swindon, you'll join our Sixth team and teach across a broad range of Chemistry provision, from Level 2 through to Level 5 HND. You'll have the opportunity to work across A Level, BTEC Applied Science, T Level and apprenticeship programmes.

You'll play an important role in supporting students to develop their subject knowledge, practical skills and confidence, while contributing to an ambitious and engaging Chemistry curriculum. The role will also include teaching and supporting higher-level laboratory work and research.

What you'll do

  • Plan and deliver engaging Chemistry lessons across a range of levels.
  • Teach and assess Chemistry up to Level 5 HND.
  • Monitor, assess and report on student progress and attendance.
  • Develop learning materials and activities that help students apply their knowledge.
  • Support practical laboratory activities and higher-level scientific investigations.
  • Support students with data analysis, report writing and research projects.
  • Maintain accurate registers and student records.
  • Contribute to assessment, moderation, standardisation and quality assurance.
  • Keep up to date with developments in Chemistry and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Support students to develop positive attitudes towards Chemistry and progression into further study or employment.

What we're looking for

  • A degree or higher-level qualification in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Science, Materials Chemistry or a closely related subject.
  • Strong Chemistry knowledge with the ability to teach and assess at Level 5.
  • Good knowledge of analytical and instrumental Chemistry, alongside broader knowledge across areas such as organic, inorganic, materials or physical Chemistry.
  • Practical laboratory experience and the ability to support higher-level laboratory work.
  • Ability to support students with scientific data analysis, report writing and research projects.
  • Experience or specialist knowledge in areas such as spectroscopy, chromatography, chemical characterisation, organic chemistry, materials or physical chemistry would be desirable.
  • Experience in a chemical, analytical, manufacturing or laboratory environment would be advantageous.
  • A Level 5 teaching qualification, or currently working towards one.
  • Level 2 English and Maths.
  • Good communication, organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and professional development.
