What You'll Be Doing
The House of Commons is looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to provide strategic financial leadership across UK Parliament. You will lead two specialist teams, bringing together financial accounting, planning, analysis and reporting to provide the insight and assurance needed to support major decisions at the heart of parliamentary democracy.
This is an influential senior finance role with a unique breadth of responsibility. You will lead the House's medium-term financial planning, oversee statutory reporting and annual accounts, and champion a strong financial control environment. You will turn complex financial information into clear insight, identifying risks, opportunities and future scenarios to support senior leaders and Members.
Working closely with the House of Lords, HM Treasury, the National Audit Office and key parliamentary committees, you will play a central role in shaping financial strategy and ensuring robust governance and accountability. You will also advise major programmes and projects, including through business case development and scrutiny.
As an inclusive and inspiring leader, you will develop high-performing teams, promote continuous improvement and ensure finance continues to add value across the organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
