Chief Accountant
Opus People Solutions are recruiting for a Chief Accountant on behalf of a Local Authority client in Worcestershire.
£500 per day Umbrella (DOE)
37 hours per week
Hybrid working (1 day onsite per week)
6-month contract
We're looking for an experienced Local Government finance professional to lead the annual accounts process and provide technical accounting expertise across a shared service arrangement supporting two councils.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the production of the Statement of Accounts and year-end closedown process
- Managing the Balance Sheet, Fixed Asset Register, and general ledger
- Overseeing treasury management activities and cash management
- Supporting revenue and capital budget monitoring
- Leading the external audit process and liaising with auditors
- Managing and developing a technical finance team
- Driving improvements to financial controls, reporting, and accounting processes
- Providing expert financial advice to senior leaders and stakeholders

You'll ideally be a CCAB-qualified accountant with significant Local Government experience, including Statement of Accounts production, treasury management, financial reporting, audit liaison, and technical accounting.
