Chief AI Research Scientist
Remote | UK
Salary: £200,000-£250,000 + Excellent Benefits
A unique opportunity to lead a world-class research organisation applying cutting-edge AI to one of the most ambitious scientific challenges of our time.
Reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the executive leadership team, you'll define scientific strategy, lead an interdisciplinary research function, and help shape the future of AI-driven discovery.
The Role
- Set the long-term scientific vision and research strategy
- Lead AI research focused on foundation models and scientific discovery
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, postdocs, and contractors
- Build external partnerships across academia, industry, and research institutions
- Mentor senior leaders and help scale a high-performing research organisation
- Represent the organisation at conferences, publications, and industry events globally

About You
- PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Engineering, or a related field
- Some post-doc/research fellow experience + 10+ years of industry experience
- Proven experience leading AI research teams, labs, or advanced technology organisations (Head of, Director, Chief level positions)
- Strong scientific credibility through research, publications, speaking engagements, or industry impact
- Comfortable engaging with executives, boards, funders, and external stakeholders
- Collaborative, low-ego leader with a passion for mission-driven work

Desirable Experience
- AI applied to scientific research or discovery
- Audio AI, speech, bioacoustics, computer vision, or related fields
- Experience across both academia and industry
- Background within leading AI research labs or major technology organisations
