Chief Engineer / UK CAA Nominated Person

📍 North Weald Airfield, Essex

💷 Highly competitive salary, dependent on experience

FT Aero is seeking an experienced and motivated Chief Engineer to lead our light aircraft engineering operation at North Weald Airfield.

This is a senior and influential position for an accomplished general aviation engineer who is capable of being accepted by the UK Civil Aviation Authority as the relevant Nominated Person/Postholder.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the engineering operation, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with UK CAA requirements, the company exposition and approved procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Acting as the relevant UK CAA Nominated Person/Postholder, subject to formal CAA acceptance
  • Leading and managing the engineering team
  • Ensuring continued compliance with applicable UK CAA requirements and company approvals
  • Planning, supervising and overseeing aircraft maintenance activities
  • Maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and regulatory compliance
  • Certifying maintenance within the privileges of your licence and company authorisation
  • Supporting, mentoring and developing licensed, trainee and apprentice engineers
  • Managing workloads, facilities, tooling, equipment, parts and technical records
  • Working closely with FT Aero’s continuing airworthiness and management teams
  • Helping to shape and develop the engineering operation as the business grows

The successful candidate will

  • Be capable of gaining UK CAA acceptance as the relevant Nominated Person/Postholder
  • Hold a current and relevant UK CAA Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence
  • Ideally hold appropriate B1.2, B3 or equivalent privileges relevant to FT Aero’s aircraft and approval scope
  • Have substantial experience in light aircraft or general aviation maintenance
  • Have previous senior-certifying, supervisory or engineering-management experience
  • Have a strong working knowledge of UK CAA requirements, approved procedures and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, organisational and decision-making skills
  • Be practical, dependable and comfortable working in a busy general aviation environment
  • Be committed to developing people and maintaining consistently high standards
