Chief Architect – Serco Group

Hybrid working

At Serco, we deliver essential public services across defence, transport, justice, immigration, healthcare and citizen services. We are a team of 50,000 people responsible for delivering services that matter to millions of people every day. Our work is complex, operationally demanding and often high-profile — but at its heart is a simple purpose: to impact a better future for the people and communities we serve.

We are currently hiring for a Chief Architect to act as the senior architectural authority for Serco Group Technology. Reporting to the Group Technology Director, this role will shape, assure and evolve Serco’s enterprise-wide technology landscape, ensuring platforms, data, services and operating models are coherent, secure, scalable and aligned to business strategy.

In the near term, you will provide architectural leadership across a major transformation programme, ensuring design decisions are robust and aligned to global blueprints. Beyond this, you will set architectural standards, guide roadmaps, govern products and platforms, and identify where emerging technologies can improve delivery, efficiency and business outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

  • Act as the senior design authority for Group Technology across transformation, products, platforms and services.
  • Define Target Operating Model principles and design guardrails across people, process, service, data and technology.
  • Assure design quality across transformation waves, resolving conflicts, risks and inconsistencies.
  • Establish reusable architecture standards, patterns and review processes to improve coherence and reduce rework.
  • Translate strategic objectives into practical options, recommendations and decision papers.
  • Lead design workshops and senior discussions, bringing clarity to complex or sensitive decisions.
  • Set the Group architecture roadmap with product, cyber, engineering and delivery teams.
  • Identify where new or emerging technologies can improve services, operational performance or customer value.
  • Govern product and platform lifecycles, including standards adoption, technical debt and lifecycle management.
  • Promote modern engineering practices including DevOps, FinOps, SecOps, automation and observability.
  • Mentor architects and senior engineers, helping mature Serco’s architecture community.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
