I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Why this role stands out
- Real ownership. You'll design the compliance function from the ground up, with no legacy and no layers of sign off.
- A direct line to the top. You'll work hand in hand with the Founder, with a genuine say in strategy, product and growth, not just risk.
- Equity. You'll join the options plan once it launches, so you share in the value you help build.
- Visibility. You'll own the FCA relationship and be the name the regulator knows.
- Pace. Your decisions land in weeks, not quarters.
Who we're looking for
You're a senior compliance leader with 12 to 15 years experience in financial services or fintech, ideally with strong exposure to consumer lending. You've built compliance programmes rather than just run them. You know FCA rules, Consumer Duty and consumer credit regulation inside out, and you're commercial enough to make compliance an enabler rather than a blocker. You have the presence to influence at executive and board level, and you want to be in the room where decisions get made. CAMS, CRCP or similar is a bonus.
